Telangana To Boost Renewable Energy To 29,645 MW By 2029–30
Telangana Rythu Power Distribution Company (TGRPDCL) chairman Musharraf Faruqui said the State's renewable energy generation capacity was 10,642 megawatt (MW) in the financial year 2025–26 and that the government was taking measures to increase it to 29,645 MW by 2029–30. He set out targets and implementation plans at a special programme organised by the Energy Department in Manchal village in Ibrahimpatnam mandal of Rangareddy. The announcement framed the expansion as part of broader efforts to strengthen rural livelihoods and energy security.
He described the central PM-KUSUM scheme as being implemented effectively with the objective of improving farmers' economic conditions. Under the scheme, farmers are permitted to establish solar plants on agricultural and barren lands and to earn additional income by selling the generated electricity to distribution companies (DISCOMs). The report noted that the scheme was presented as accessible to landholders and designed to integrate farm-based generation with grid requirements.
Scheme guidelines allow installations with capacities ranging from zero point five MW to two MW. It was explained that approximately three point five acres are required to set up one MW of capacity and that small and marginal farmers may form groups of two or three members to develop joint projects. The structure is intended to enable participation by farmers who lack sufficient individual landholding.
The State Government has introduced incentives to encourage uptake, including exemption from NALA conversion charges and fifty per cent SGST reimbursement. Officials also highlighted exemption from Pollution Control Board (PCB) no objection certificates and one hundred per cent exemption from electricity duty. These measures were described as lowering barriers and improving the financial attractiveness of farm?based solar projects.
Faruqui was reported to have addressed attendees on the scheme benefits and operational details and to have outlined steps for scaling capacity across the State. The programme was presented as a push to expand renewable capacity while delivering direct income streams to farming communities.
