Tadicherla Block Two Allocated To Singareni Collieries By Centre

The minister said that SCCL was facing financial challenges and registering negative growth, and that the Tadicherla allocation was intended to address those circumstances. Despite a Supreme Court judgment mandating auction-based allocation of coal blocks, the minister said the prime minister had authorised the allocation after legal provisions under the Coal Mines Act were considered and a formal legal opinion obtained. The action was framed as consistent with statutory options available to the government.

The minister said the decision had been taken beyond political considerations after trade unions representing Singareni workers sought intervention. He noted that discussions with the prime minister and the subsequent legal advice had been central to the course of action that ensured the allocation. Recalling prior efforts, he said he had also secured the allocation of the Naini coal block to SCCL as part of measures to shore up the company's assets.

He described Tadicherla as the largest coal reserve available to SCCL and said it would provide long-term energy security for Telangana while strengthening the public sector company. He also framed the moves as consistent with his identity as a son of Telangana and as a participant in the Telangana movement, which had motivated efforts to secure state interests. Officials indicated that the allocation was intended to underpin a more secure fuel base for power and industrial needs in the region.
