BRICS Conference 2023 fosters sustainability and competition

Addressing the eighth BRICS International Competition Conference 2023 in the national capital, NCLAT Chairperson Ashok Bhushan highlighted the crucial need for effective cooperation among BRICS nations. He emphasised the necessity of striking a delicate balance between promoting sustainability and competition to tackle intricate challenges. Bhushan stressed the significance of free and fair competition in the marketplace and called for a robust mechanism to regulate digital markets.

In his keynote speech, he underscored that strong anti-trust enforcement is a fundamental component of the comprehensive public policy framework governing companies. He also pointed out that the incorporation of sustainability into competition law could drive innovation, encourage the development of cleaner technologies, promote renewable energy sources, and offer sustainable solutions across diverse industries.

The conference, expected to draw over 600 delegates, aims to foster discussions on these critical issues and will conclude on Friday. Bhushan noted that the last time India hosted this conference was in 2013, highlighting the importance of ongoing international cooperation in addressing contemporary challenges.
