Integration with OEMs is fundamental to our success

Shveta Arya, Managing Director, Cummins India

How do you see the Indian construction equipment market evolving in the coming years?
The construction equipment sector witnessed strong growth for several years, followed by a modest slowdown recently. However, given India’s projected GDP growth and sustained government investment in infrastructure, we expect the segment to resume growth in the coming years. The country still requires significant expansion in roads, highways, ports and airports to support long-term economic development, and construction will remain a critical enabler of this journey.

How important is OEM collaboration in delivering technology-led solutions?
Integration with OEMs is fundamental to our success. We work with OEMs as long-term partners, co-developing solutions that make their products and applications more successful. Whether it is cleaner fuels, alternative powertrains, higher efficiency engines or digital solutions, meaningful progress happens only through close and continuous collaboration with our partners.

How is Cummins leveraging digital tools to enhance customer service and operational efficiency?
Digital integration spans our entire value chain. At our India technical centre, which houses around 3,500 engineers, digital tools are embedded in R&D to improve agility and speed. Across manufacturing plants—both legacy and newer facilities—we use digital solutions to enhance quality, safety and operational efficiency.

In the field, telematics installed on equipment provides valuable usage data, enabling proactive customer support and continuous product improvement. Digitalisation is an ongoing journey, and while we have made progress, there remains significant scope for further advancement.

What role does localisation play in strengthening Cummins’ supply chain strategy?
Localisation of supply chains in India supports cost efficiency, shorter lead times and closer engagement with customers and suppliers. At the same time, agility is strengthened through Cummins’ global manufacturing and supplier network, which allows flexibility in responding to disruptions. This combination of local presence and global scale enables us to serve both Indian and international markets effectively.
